Reuse Diaper Bag as Travel Bag

My favorite bag to travel with is a diaper bag. You must know my children are college age. Yes, I can be a #minimalist and believe in reusing and recycling.

So, here’s the story. About 20 years ago at our baby shower, we received our diaper bag that was neutral and solid in color. No teddy bear design for me, yes, back then, moms may have actually carried that. We chose a name brand that was known for durability. The Eddie Bauer was the Cadillac of diaper bags.

The main part of the bag is organized in two generous sections divided by a plastic zippered wet bag in the middle for dirty messes that happen with little ones. The smaller creature features are interior and exterior zipped pockets, large exterior velcro pocket, 2 small exterior side pockets, and a rollout cushioned pad for the baby.

So this diaper bag went everywhere with me when I had 2 kids in diapers. It was hefty to hold, but it was worth having every imaginable item available.

Next phase of parenthood, my kids were out of diapers, and I would still bring that bag. It had a slot for my wallet and phone, a section for paper coupons, makeup, kid toys, camera, and sometimes a camcorder. Yes, I am dating myself. 😅

I was at the point where my purse had become so impractical. After a while, my husband had to pry the diaper bag from my death grip. I mean we had preschool aged children, and it was time. I did sneak it in the car for a day at the zoo, of course.

But then the skies parted, and we saw the light, the diaper bag graduated to a travel bag. It holds medicine, makeup, hair accessories, facial washes, and lotions. It keeps all of it perfectly organized. The wet bag is made for my toothbrush and makeup applicators.

Today, I can say our diaper bag has survived so many trips. And of course, it packs a lot of memories that I refuse to part with. In writing this, I checked out the latest trend in diaper bags. How lucky you are to be starting a #family today! As a #traveler, I just may buy a Mina Baie diaper bag if my Eddie Bauer ever gives out. It’s okay because before I know it, I will be a grandparent, and I may need an actual diaper bag again. 😍
