Do You Still Remember Crowds?

The most attended event in US history was the Chicago Cubs’ post-win rally and parade in 2016. Yes, there are many Chicago Cubs fans, and 5 million showed up that day to celebrate their BIG World Series win.

This is according to Bleacher Nation.  The Cubs’ Post-Win Celebration Was the Largest Gathering of People in US History

Remember being together? Sitting in the stands of a baseball game, in a movie theater with a buttery popcorn, or at a concert with the crowd swaying to the music. Those were good times!

Now, we are apart, and it gets me thinking how much humans need each other. Human connection is important to our health and well being. We need each other in our small groups and as the human race collectively. Togetherness is essential, and I think we miss each other.

Let’s think back to the times when we truly embraced our humanity. We were in a crowd of people, the horror! We can romanticize the good old days, but it was not too long ago that wait times were too long and places were too packed. And we’d complain because it was just too crowded!

Whether it was a “have to do” or a “want to do,” here are 20, not so fun, times with a crowd.

1 Airplane seats

2 Public transportation

3 Public restrooms

4 Crowded elevators

5 Apple Store

6 Cell phone stores

7 Government office (DMV) lines

8 Firework displays

9 Airports over Thanksgiving week

10 Black Friday shopping

11 Christmas and Easter masses

12 Santa Claus lines at the mall

13 Spring Break beaches

14 Times Square on New Year’s Eve

15 Walt Disney World winding lines

16 State Fair “deep fried anything” lines

17 Waterslide lines on a hot summer day

18 Parade routes

19 Rush hour traffic

20 Chik-fil-A drive thru lines (we’re still doing a lot of that)

Even with all the fun, the crowd often felt like a bother. Maybe we’ll be more patient and appreciate each other a bit more on the other side of this pandemic.

Today, can you imagine 5 million people getting together? I’m still beaming just thinking that Cubs fans created the largest attended event in US history! The best part was sharing this fun fact with my husband, a White Sox fan. 😝
