Time to Celebrate Home, Our Earth

Do you celebrate Earth Day? We seem to recognize the day and feel an extra responsibility to care for our planet during the month of April.

It’s often a beautiful day to pitch in outside when days are warmer and nature’s color shines. But I think our Earth is something to think about all year long. It’s so easy to make a difference alone or in a group. It’s also amazing to be an example of tree hugging and earth loving to our children, parents, friends, etc..

It can be simply picking up trash while we walk outside anywhere. It can be recycling at home or taking the extra steps to recycle while we are out. It’s cutting the six-pack plastic rings and reusing bags, jars, and containers.

It’s planting perennial gardens, plants, and flowers that attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and honeybees. It’s planting trees on our property for birds’ safe landings and food needs. It’s birdhouses and bird baths. Maybe less plastic and more solar lights?

It’s my cousin saving the baby squirrel found duress and can’t help but wonder if this cutie is now part of our family. It is legal down in Missouri 😉

Looking back on one memorable Earth Day weekend, my girls were little saplings themselves, and we planted trees together.  This year, we cleaned up garbage around a neighborhood pond.

I think my absolute love of nature and its beauty is my way to celebrate our Earth every day. I’m always snapping pictures of sunsets and skies and trees. I can be miles from home or in my backyard. Just check out my Instagram, if you like that sort of thing.

It is human nature to love nature where so much of ourselves can be discovered and understood. Look around and explore the great outdoors. The Earth, and its unique terrains, different seasons, exotic wildlife, is calling. All is a celebration of this gift of life!

The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it.” Psalm 24:1 (NIV)
