The power of music, right? All of our hearts explode with songs. Memories are locked and throw away the key, if music is connected to them.
Recently, a favorite artist soothed me back home after taking our daughter to college. #BruceSpringsteen and “E Street Radio” played in our van. A voice from my past consoled me.
At first, it was a welcome distraction. But then “Bobby Jean” broke the floodgates. Bruce had me thinking of our daughter moving away from us, her friends, and the life she knew. He took me back in time when I moved on by myself. My daughter and I, our lives, crashed together in song. And I cried like a baby.
Sprintgsteen is a storyteller, and his lyrics are truth and heart and grit. He gets you to sing along with the harmonica and saxophone while he breaks your heart.
“And I’m just calling you one last time
Not to change your mind, but just to say I miss you, baby
Good luck, goodbye, Bobby Jean”
Music has power. It connects us. It narrates life; love, loss, joy, and pain. It takes us dancing or hushes us to sleep. It drives us further down the road. It keeps time and memory. It has the potential to energize and calm. It drowns out noise and life. It’s an escape. It’s a celebration. It’s goodbye.
How many times are you thinking of someone, and the radio plays their song? Or a song takes you back to a moment? That is magic!
Take some time and think of your life playlist. And then stream, create, and relive your life. I hope it makes you smile.
