How Do We Care?

Everyone is a caregiver of some kind. We all care for someone or something. We may care for a home, a pet, a car, a child, a job, or a houseplant. The list of what and who needs our care can be endless!

For me, it’s the greatest blessing to have cared for a child. I learned so much about caregiving when I nurtured another life that relied on me for everything. A life that I treasured and will forever treasure immeasurably.

Parenting makes us intensely cognizant of all of our actions and words and how those affect our children. We can only hope we did good.

If we let ourselves think about it, how we’ve affected others in the past and now still going forward. We have to admit that we’ve all let others down sometimes.

We intently affect who and what we care for because we do care. We create strong positive and negative effects. We often do it unknowingly.

We think and behave and speak from habit, from our own perspective, and from things we take from our own pasts. With that, we all have our unique way to “care” for others. We’re not always understood even with our best efforts.

Each person whom we care for has different needs that we often don’t fully understand. They all have habits, their own perspectives, and things from their pasts.

I believe that we’re all doing our best to care for each other. If we can remember this, we can all be more understanding. And with that, maybe take care of each other a little better.
