Friendship in a Photograph

Can a relationship be captured in a photograph? I think so.

In the photo above, I’m struck by the loving friendship between these two girls. This photograph shines light on all that is good in friendship.

First, I am struck by their stance. One stands tall while the other leans into the other. At different times, friends need each other’s support to different degrees based on life’s circumstances. Pillars of strength in friendship.

Second, I love the way the two girls hold onto each other. They are together no matter what comes their way. They depend on each other. Strong loyalty in friendship.

Third, I’m taken into the forest with them. They experience the world together, near or far. Friendship is an adventure.

Fourth, I was struck by the matching hats, but unique outfits and hairstyles. We’re attracted to friends who are similar but also different enough. We choose each other in friendship.

When I think about the friends whom I love, they are always with me. A friendship that stands the test of time is a heart and a soul connection. At any time, it can be picked up where they left off.

“Greater love has no one than this; to lay down one’s life for one’s friend.” – John 15:13 NIV
